Spazzms of a Slacker

Sitting at home gave me time to properly sink into my hobby of video games and anime again. I also found time to join the new WorldCosplay website and update my cosplay pictures.

Anyway! I'm going to be spazzing about some of the games and shows I've been enjoying the pass month. Good stuff should be shared with the world. C:

X-Note

Time to plug one of my favourite deviantARTist that I've been following since I joined the website in 2006. ZEIVA! Zeiva is a two person group, comprising of Mirage Maiden and Nitarou. They have been making lots of visual novels, dating sim and other otome games. For the pass few Comic Fiestas, Zeiva has been attending! And I'm always excited to see her! I bought Other Age 2 in 2010, and I immediately purchased X-Note when I saw it at CF2011.

One of the three "date-able" guys - Oure!

It's mostly just a storyline and plot driven game, with questions and choices to make. The story has a supernatural theme, and it's a mystery game! :3 It runs over a span of 30 days, where the main character, Essi is asked to uncover the mysteries of Xen Institute and X-Note, a USB drive that was left behind by her mother, who is believed to be murdered by supernatural forces. So everyday, Essi would have her daily psychic training. The skills you train and the choices will determine which of the three paths (of the three guys: Yuon, Oure and Anon) you will follow, and which ending you get. I love love love the art and LOVE LOVE LOVE the characters! The music is not bad, considering everything was made by indie developers. The storyline, uuuu, so nice and sad at the same time! ;___;

ANON! My favourite guy. :3 MY POOR POOR BOY. ;___;

If you haven't noticed, there's a colour theme going on with all the characters. :P It gets more apparent when you play the game, hehe! I played the game for a few days, and I'm so glad I bought it! Although it's just a few hours of game time, it was worth all the art and storyline and to support zeiva! Kept dying a few times though, ughhh. BUT SO REWARDING. Cried multiple times. ;___; That's how attached to the story I am, hehe.

Yuon and Essi!

If you want to play the game, I can borrow you the CD. lD It's a nice otome game. :3 Can't wait to get more of Zeiva's stuff!

Switched at Birth

This was totally unexpected. Since I'm mostly in the living hall with my laptop, slacking, the tv is on and I'd just surf through the channels and leave it on. Then I just so happen to catch the first episode of this show. Then I got hooked! It's about two families, with two girls, Bay and Daphne, who finds out one day that they were, as the title says, switched at birth. It's really interesting as it shows how to two families try to find harmony with each other, and the girls find out how life might've been different, and they start entering each other's life. What is even more interesting, is that the show focuses a lot of hearing disabilities, because Daphne is a deaf character (played by a real hard-of-hearing actress)! There's a lot of sign language throughout the show, and it's funny how they joke and make faces while signing. There's another deaf boy who's really sweet and quite a looker too. The real actor is deaf as well. owo

So everyday I would catch this show because I'm home all day anyway. At one point I got really busy that I missed the whole week of episodes, I just had to watch it online! Then I realized that there was only 14 episodes out at the moment, because the show is still screening.

I think this is the first time I'm actually following an American series so closely. Not even Glee! Usually I'd just watch whatever that screens on the TV, and if I miss it, I don't bother. xD But Switched at Birth really has an interesting plot with nice character backgrounds and developments.

Ace Attorney. and convincing others to play the games I play!

THE FLAME IS BACK. It's funny how I was the hugest fan of Ace Attorney in the Anime Society, and I had to spazz alone about it, but actually Dhurga was quite a fan of Ace Attorney too! And by my amazing convincing powers, I got Dhurga to play Apollo Justice and start replaying the game. I got Wee to jump on the Ace Attorney bandwagon too! Just like me, he started with Trials and Tribulations, somehow. :P And somehow, Irfan went to wiki and read the whole Phoenix Wright story. He later started playing the game, and is now at Justice for All! So happy people are joining my fandom... *w* I could finally spazz about the storyline, about Godot and what not to them, and they would get it! BUT WHY SO LATE! Y U NO PLAY ACE ATTORNEY EARLIER! ;w;

Additionally, I made Irfan finish Ghost Trick too, and Isaac started playing Golden Sun! :3 Happy happy happy. Otherwise I'd always be the only one who knows all these unknown games!

Back to Ace Attorney spazzing.

The Gyakuten Saiban/Ace Attorney Live Action Movie out in February! OMG THE EPICNESS OF IT. The way they brought the characters to live, so owhsm! It still has the over-the-topness of Ace Attorney, yet it doesn't come off too cheesy. Only Japan can pull this off... lD CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH THIS. SO PROMISING.

Golden Sun

This must be one of the best RPG for the Gameboy Advance. Great plot, nice battle system with a great dose of adventure and puzzle! I played the first Golden Sun long ago in primary school. I started the second game, Golden Sun: The Lost Age a few years back, but I never finished it, due to my habit of getting overwhelmed once arriving at a point in the game where I get a ship to travel the whole map and have too many side quests and stuff to do! I was actually really close to the end of the game already! But I just didn't finish it... I decided to replay the game so that I would know the whole plot again before I went on and play Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (the third game). I played this game on mute while watching my anime on the same screen, hehe. :P Sadly, I can't start playing Dark Dawn yet as I still have to figure out a way to work the ROM on my NDS emulator, as the game runs waaay too slow.

I love this game tons! I just love the game concept a lot. But as usual... it's pretty unknown, especially here in Malaysia. ;w; It seems that handheld games just aren't as popular here!

Clannad

Last year, while transferring some files from Wee's hard disk, I took some Anime from him. Clannad was one of them. It was based on a visual novel, and it's a harem! The characters are quite interesting and funny. I sort of expected more from it since my friends were saying good things about it. I expected to cry too, but amazingly I didn't much!

Finally, I understood Irfan's obsession over dangos though! And it was lucky that I watched this before his birthday, which helped me in preparing his dango gifts. :P But seriously, how do people even create such a random character out of a random food item! The Japanese, tsktsk. But gosh, Dango Daikazoku keeps getting stuck in my head. xD I finished this series before Chinese New Year. I really need to watch After Story though!

Toradora!

Another one of the animes I took from Wee. After finishing Clannad, I watched this (during CNY)! It's quite a cheerful anime, seeing how the characters interact with each other! But it's still pretty deep and serious, in terms of the character's back story and their development. I love all five of the main characters! *w* They are really relatable! (to me, at least) I wish there was more to it though! (or maybe it's because I was watching it too quickly...) I have to admit that Ryuuji's eyes did freak me out a bit at the start (which was the show's "intention"), and what's with Inko-chan, such an unattractive parrot... =w= I wonder if Ryuuji qualifies as having a harem, hmmm... I wish there was more on Ami and Minori's struggles! The ending kinda caught me off guard, about the whole run away from home and -that- thing. But still it's a nice series! ^^

Howl's Moving Castle

Jules left me some of her books as she was leaving for US. I started reading this (exact same book cover as the above!) because I needed something to keep me entertained while I was out of the house, especially during CNY. Yes, Howl's Moving Castle was an English written book before it became the Japanese hit movie! I haven't watched the movie yet, but I've seen some images of the movie, which restricted some of my visualization while reading the book because the image of Howl and his pink/blue cloak kept floating into my mind. But still, it was a nice fantasy book with lots of humour and bits of romance! It was confusing a bit at parts, but eventually I manage to follow. The characters are pretty real in the magical world, in the sense that they do act and think realistically. Even though Howl appears to be quite a jerk some times, he does know what he is facing and takes smart actions - his fame as a remarkable wizard is not without reason! The characters are pretty lovable! Sophie and her sisters, Howl, Calcifer, Michael... It was a fun ride. ^^ I can't wait to watch the movie and see the differences! I hope the Howl in the movie doesn't disappoint, because I'm quite attached to the book one now. :P (but the movie Howl wins in physical appearance, naturally!)

And now that I don't have any more anime series in my hard disk, I might just continue watching Avatar: The Last Airbender online until I can get more anime from my friends. Also, I'm going to be finishing Pokemon FireRed, then move on to HeartGold/SoulSilver! I should really get back to reading my Pokemon Adventures and Detective Conan manga too. Nyaaah I'm just looking for new things and hobbies to do...

Here's some other random spazzms!

KINGDOM HEARTSSSS. I was such a huge fan of this series! Then they made more games and I couldn't keep up with the storyline, from the games released after Kingdom Hearts II onwards! GOSH, Kingdom Hearts 3D (Dream Drop Distance) looks promising! WATCH THE TRAILER ABOVE. It's like an immediate memory activator! So many scenes from the old game that holds so much meaning in the series... makes me feel like jumping back into the series and finish playing Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days and Birth by Sleep. lD Probably not going to happen so soon. *sigh* But it still doesn't stop me from loving the characters and loving this awesome trailer!

I suddenly started listening to game OSTs, the I went to Kyle Landry's piano covers (he plays wonderful improv pieces!) then I found THIS. Josh! How I wish I knew how to play stings or woodwind! Or just being more epic on my piano. ;w; I can never be this awesome... How do these YouTube people manage to find people with similar talents to make these sort of awesome stuff? ;w; SO JELLY. Now I feel like playing and acing my piano... but I won't be able to do much like record more covers since my piano is so out of tune and there's no point tuning it as I'm leaving overseas soon... ;w;

Yesh, that's all for my spazzms, WHEE!

January Update/Report! (plus announcement)

So, I fell back into procrastination again. I started typing my Comic Fiesta post but the epicness of it was intimidating me so I stopped finishing it... for now. lD After a good 3 weeks of slacking, I should be going back into my blog updates!

Wow... February is around the corner already! Honestly, I've been rotting at home for the first half of January - wake up, facebook, teevee, sleep, rinse and repeat! I hardly walked out of the home that I was almost becoming a vampire! (albeit a tan one, I'll be a new race of vampires wahahaha)

ANNOUNCEMENT

After months of waiting, weeks of chasing and complications, I finally received my offer letter from Penang International Dental College. Yes, I'll be pursuing Dentistry! I'm entering the April 2012 batch, meaning I will be leaving end of March for my first two years in Salem, India, before returning to Butterworth, Penang, for my next three years. It will be five years away from home. I am nervous, scared, yet excited for what the future holds!

I am somewhat sad too, as I have to let go many things that I enjoy to run off to university life. I won't be able to attend my temple activities anymore. After 5 consecutive years of organizing Teen Dhamma Camp, I won't be able to return for my 6th, and I'll never be able to fulfill my wish of finally chairing a Dhamma Camp. It'll be my first year missing TDC. I will miss cosplay, as India (especially the southern parts where I am going) does not have notable cosplay community. I don't know if I'll be able to make it for Comic Fiesta 2012! If I don't, I won't be able to make my 5th consecutive win at the Group Cosplay Competition. I can't enjoy the physical company of my friends, family, the taste of Malaysia...

Separation happens to most of us eventually, I guess... it's just hard to face it, and counting down my days makes me hyperventilate. ;__; What can I do to make my two months before uni life worthwhile? I really don't want to waste it on a job I don't enjoy, I don't want to just rot at home either. Anyone can suggest something crazy and out of the blue for me to do? Maybe picking up a new skill or hobby? I'll need new interests to carry over to India too, since internet will be slow and access to my current hobbies will be scarce, haha...

scared.scared.scared. I hope I'll survive!

The rest of this blogpost will be the whole condensation of my January. Like the epic year in a nutshell post! Except that this is just a month in a nutshell.

Comic Fiesta 2011 Preparations

This year, I started kinda early with my hardcore Comic Fiesta preparations. But unlike previous years, there was so much I needed to do! I was attempting to create Oerba Yun Fang's costume from SCRATCH! So, it's still considered "procrastination", haha... ^^"

This will mostly be a Fang "Work In Progress" post. This is not exactly a tutorial, as everything is not 100% accurate and I'm not a pro. I'm gonna try my best to record everything I did in detail, in hopes that this might help someone out there. (not like I have a lot of blog readers anyway |D)

My crazy ambitious project

I only started buying some of the pieces I needed the Sunday before Comic Fiesta. Some of my friends have already started on their props the previous week! I should've done that too, then it would've saved me more headache as they would be able to assist me a bit on my prop (DAT SPEAR!).

Isaac, Crystal, Alex and I went shopping at the Curve, and later Sunway Pyramid. Curve shopping was not very fruitful. ;w; I managed to buy a pair of big pearl earrings for Mia Fey (because I lost my last ones), along with some hemp cloth (will be seen later) and bobby pins from Daiso. After being in 3 different Daiso's, I finally found some crafting clay in Sunway Pyramid. Bought pipes and spray paint from Ace Hardware too.

The real work started on Monday, which was a public holiday. I had to work at the office on Tuesday, and I took the next three days off from work just to work on my cosplay! So all in all, it was only 5 days of preparation. And thank goodness I did, otherwise I'd never be finished! Even then, I had other things to do other than preparing for Fang. Chia Mei (Serah) came over on Day 3 and Day 4 of preparations, to prepare for our Group Cosplay Competition skit as well. She made her necklace and sewed her blouse at my house too. We did the voice acting, got my brother to voice Snow and collected Celine's (Lightning) voice, then I had to edit the audios. Alex (Snow) came on Day 4 for rehearsals, but Celine couldn't make it! In the end, the four of us only met up during Comic Fiesta itself. (this is a story for later!)

I'll be writing what I did in parts instead of days, so it'll be more helpful. :3 BEWARE. This blogpost is image and text heavy!

The whole photo album of my WIP can be found here, with construction notes too.

Lenses for CF!

I usually delay the opening of my lenses so that they can stay around for a longer time. :P But in December, when CF was approaching, I had to open and try them on! Gosh, I'm in love with my new lenses! :3

The Dolly Eye Puffy 3 Tones - Green

I got this waaaay back when Anthea bought something from TcFang. Opened them, soaked them, put them on, and went out with my mum with the lenses on. |D

In the bottle!

Ta-dah!

Comparison shot

Sparkleeh (I look like shit here because I haven't been sleeping much lol)

These are my first green lens! And I'm pretty chuffed about them! I originally thought Puffy 3 Tones were going to be more natural and less obvious, especially for the green as I thought the colour would be more of a light, grassy green tone. But these are quite a pop-out! The colour is definitely less vivid than, say, Dolly and Blytheye, but it's still pretty! I like how the colour and pattern blends with the eyes, and they don't look scary at all. These were perfect for my Fang cosplay. ^^

EOS A3 Series (Princess Mimi/Bambi) - Grey
nurin lens

You already know my story about nurin lens. They take forever to arrive! A3 was a new series from EOS, designed to look like Geo Princess Mimi/Bambi lenses, the ones that Tsukasa from Dolly Wink designed.

SO SPARKLEH

Comparison shot (in failer light)

Full shot! I look so pika here *w*

These lenses are BEAUTIFUL! The colours are rather obvious as you can see in my full shot, but they are not scary at all! The ring pattern is abit unique. I like that it's like Puffy 3 Tones, where there's the brown inner ring thing that helps the lens blend better with your eyes. And it does exactly that. The pattern kinda reminds me abit of Nudy though... but not as reptiley as Nudy. I can wear this on a regular basis! :D (although they are still abit too ganas for casual wear, haha)

So, it's about time for me to retire my lovely Old Adult Blue lens! I'm not sure if I'm going to get new lenses, since I have most of the important colours already (except purple, but not cosplaying anyone with purple eyes yet). Plus, I'm probably going overseas for my uni studies soon and I have no idea what I'm going to do with these lenses! Not sure what's the reception for coloured lenses in India, haha. Probably shouldn't... |D

SAM Corroboree 2011

I just got back from Singapore on the 14th and the next day was my Corroboree already! SAM Corroboree a.k.a Prom. It was the last event that the whole SAM Class of 2011 was invited to. As the Student Council President, how could I not be there? xD

Luckily, mum and I went dress shopping at Subang Parade before I went to Singapore!

That morning, I went back to college to get my speech done. I sat in the White Room forming my speech, while Jules and Sue were working on their Prom stuff (they were in the committee!). After I presented it to Mrs Quek, I went home. As the hour approached, I got dressed and Felicia helped me with my make up. Armed with my heels, I left for Grand Dorsett! While I was on the car, I even had the time to paint my nails, hehe.

It was kinda fun and flattering, because when I arrived at the doorsteps, I had two guys waiting to bring me in: My TAS boys, Isaac and Wee. xD Charming as usual! But extra suave that night.

My look for the night! :3

Anime Festival Asia 2011! Day 3 and 4!

Anime Festival Asia 2011 Reports:
AFA Day 1 [11.11.11]
AFA Day 2 [12.11.11]
AFA Day 3 and Home [13.11.11]

And now we enter to the last day of my eventful Singapore trip to AFA!

For Day 3, I was cosplaying Hannah again. I actually brought my Mia Fey costume, but with the crowd in AFA, Mia would be drowned in it and become unknown. Besides, I haven't seen any other Phoenix Wright characters... ;w;

Melissa and her mum sneaked some breakfast for me again. I dapao-ed some of the complementary fruits too, and had some hiong peng left from Day 1 from home.

Me as Hannah Anafeloz from Kuroshitsuji II again, and Melissa as Shion from No.6!

Just like Day 2, I tried to run over to Suntec as early as I could to meet up with the boys. They were busy doing their own thing, so we decided to meet up around noon at the maid cafe. Melissa and I on the other hand were snapping photos of other cosplayers again, and then we settled down at the small Canon stage to wait for Kaname's appearance. He was scheduled to have a fan photo-taking session around 12.15pm! Wee tagged along with us and became my "butler" because he needed someone to stop him from buying more merchandises and overspending, hehe. Seriously, you should ask him how much he spent on Day 2. @_@

I don't have a picture of the crowd, but it was crazy! People started sitting down and crowding around the stage. Some forced their way to the front and made space for 5 people to sit, somehow. And it was only 11.30-ish.

Usagi as Nami and Kaname as Sanji kyaaa!

Anime Festival Asia 2011! Day 2!

Anime Festival Asia 2011 Reports:
AFA Day 1 [11.11.11]
AFA Day 2 [12.11.11]
AFA Day 3 and Home [13.11.11]

I'm back to updating about what happened in November (omg it was almost 2 months ago already)! So the continuation of the Anime Festival Asia post! Day 2, here we go! :D

As I mentioned earlier, I was staying with Melissa in Conrad, just a stone's throw away from Suntec Convention Centre. Woke up late-ish. Melissa and her mum had breakfast while I prep for my cosplay. They sneaked yoghurt and char siew pao for me!

Me as Hannah from Kuroshitsuji II and Melissa as Nai from Karneval!

On the other hand, this was what the guys experienced :P

Headed off to the event around 10-ish. The place was PACKED with people! Wee, Irfan and BK had already left from their hotel, and they were with Nick in the Stage Hall watching Danny Choo's Culture Japan preview! As Melissa had her Media Pass, and was able to get into Atelier Royal, the Butler Cafe, and get photos with all the butlers (I JELLY), I ran off to look for the guys first.

Met the doods in the event hall. I sneaked beside them for a moment and they were talking about me and didn't noticed I was there. xD

Later I stole Wee's camera for most of the event, ngahahaha. Me and Melissa went wandering around the festival hall, which was also packed with people! The lines for the merchandises were craaaazy. There was quite a lot of cosplayers, but waaay more normal eventgoers. Still, that didn't stop me from going triggerhappy. :3

Tons of photos ahead! :D
